We are a non profit association that rescue and care for Vervet monkeys in South Africa. As we do not receive any grants from government we need you, the caring animal lovers to help us to safe these monkeys from cages. We depend on your donations to help these monkeys and other wild animals in our care.

We applied for registration as a Non Profit Organization and bank details will change within next two months. We understand that registration is not compulsory, but we want to be transparent and open with what we are doing here on the farm and with the donations we receive. It will take two months before we will receive our NPO number, too long for monkeys that are in dire need of help.

FACTS ABOUT VERVET MONKEYS

# They are very sociable creatures and need other monkeys to live a happy and healthy life. Monkeys kept in cages alone will suffer from depression and are not healthy animals. THIS IS A CRUEL PRACTICE....NO ANIMAL SHOULD BE CAGED OR CHAINED.

# It is a myth that monkeys raised by humans, will never be accepted back into wild troops. We let them run free here on the farm and several of our rescued monkeys are now members of the wild troop that passes by every few days.

# Monkeys use very complex facial expressions to communicate, this is why they attack people who make funny faces at them. Raising of the eyebrows, loud screaming, sudden movements and staring are signs of aggression and they will attack you and your child. THEY ARE WILD ANIMALS AND DO NOT MAKE GREAT PETS......GET A DOG!

# They are very protective of their young and the only way to get a baby monkey is to kill the mother. That little monkey that is offered to you for sale, was torn from his dead mother's chest. THINK!!!!! If a monkey is offered to you, CALL THE NEAREST SPCA and report this person. Buying that monkey, will only create a market for babies and more killings of mothers.

# monkeys are no longer on the official "vermon" list (NO ANIMAL SHOULD BE) and it is illegal to shoot these animals. I want all the trigger happy farmers to take note of this. Monkeys were on that land long before you destroyed there natural forests. So, if they take some of your crop........get over it.......it's rent you owe them. Buy cheaper cars and bakkies, that way you will not need more and more money per plant season.

# MONKEYS ARE MINI HAIRY HUMANS WITH A GREAT SOCIAL STRUCTURE OF, ORDER, DISCIPLINE, RESPECT FOR ELDERS AND THEY OBEY THE LAWS OF THE TROOP.........LEARN FROM THEM!

We are caring for the monkeys out of our own pockets with sales from our art. Richard is a master with steel and paint techniques. I'm a cabinet maker and love to work with wood. So far we managed to keep the monkeys alive and healthy. With the tough economic crisis all over the world, things are getting very difficult and orders are few and far apart.

FUTURE PLANS

We need to build a very large holding cage for new arrivals, where they can be housed for a few days just to bond with the other monkeys before. This cage must be huge and comfortable and will be build over large trees. It will also serve as a safe place for injured monkeys to make treatment easier.

This will also help us to rescue a lot more monkeys from cages in town. It is difficult at the moment because we can at the moment only help one at a time due to the lack of holding facilities.

Every cent of this money WILL go towards the care of the monkeys and to rescue others in dire need of help. We will post all donations and amounts received on this site, and a monthly expenditure statement of money spend. Receipts and invoices will be kept on file and we will send copies to you on request.
